A press round-up for 'RICHARD III'

RICHARD III is open, and we have been getting a great deal of publicity lately. The reviews have been very positive, and the houses are starting to really pick up. We received a standing ovation on Saturday night, a raucous round of applause for a fantastic ensemble of actors who are doing terrific work night in and night out. We run until October 18th, and the houses are filling up!! Don't miss your chance to be a part of this amazing production.

I was recently featured in an interview on WTVR-6's Virginia This Morning with hosts Julie Bragg and fellow Bay-Stater, Red Sox Fan and SEAL Team alum, Greg McQuade.

(quick side-note: Greg won an Emmy for a piece on SEAL Team CEO and Founder John McGuire's battle back from paralysis.)

Greg and Julie were very gracious to afford me the opportunity to speak about this once-in-a-lifetime role. It is a nice, informative interview. Check it out:

For a quick rundown of the 'ink' we've been getting, look no further than this blog post-- your one-stop shop for all the RIII news that's fit to print.

If you're unfamiliar with what we're doing out at Henley Street Theatre, I urge you to check out these links to three separate feature stories on the concept of our production of RICHARD III. Here are links to some interesting and informative reads from the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Style Weekly and You can also read a great feature on Director James Ricks and myself in Richmond Marquee-- you can do yourself a favor and subscribe to this great Theatre Resource by going here!! (I love you, Lisa!!)

I also wrote a short piece for URGE Magazine on the process of creating my version of Richard Gloucester. You can peruse that here.

As for the reviews, we've gotten two very positive ones from the RTD's Susan Haubentstock and Style's Dave Timberline. A third review, from's Joan Tupponce, was heard on NPR last tuesday; I'm working on finding either a link or a transcript --or both.

More information can also be found at the Henley street Theatre website. You'll find Ticket prices, showtimes, show photos and much more info regarding Henley Street's 2008-2009 season.

Meantime, we hope you'll join us for the remaining performances of RICHARD III. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for reading!! I hope to see you on Henley Street!!

I love you Sweetie, and I'm particularly happy with the piece on you guys. It was a fun interview. I'm only terribly sad that my show schedule won't allow me to see Richard III. I know you are amazing, and I hate missing it. Enjoy the rest of the run.

I'm gonna take a few minutes here and say something to both Scott, my dear friend and colleague, and to those of you who either know him or simply enjoy watching his performances (or both).

I've waited a few years for another opportunity to work with Scott, who is one of those small handful of folks other actors want to work with - so I'm in good company. Though we have little time together on stage, each such moment is a rare treat for me. In a few small scenes in one of my roles (Tyrell), we get a few moments onstage alone together. It's my favorite time of each performance.

Working with Scott, you know as you're rehearsing day over day that the work is good, very good, but you just never know how an audience will respond to it. They've embraced his performance with tremendous enthusiasm. Yet while I know Scott put tremendous amounts of time and energy into what is one of the most heavyweight roles in the entire canon, the weight of it rarely showed with him. When not focused on the scene he was rehearsing, he often enjoyed sharing a joke with others in the cast, or talking about his love of sports and all things Bostonian in the athletic realm. Scott's one of the guys, no question. He just happens to be a rare talent as well.

I just returned from a trip to Indianapolis. They have a wonderful LORT theatre there with Indiana Repertory Theatre, and so I took a look at their schedule to see if I could catch a show - unfortunately, they were dark while I was there. But I noticed their upcoming holiday show is "This Wonderful Life", the one man show Scott will perform following Richard III. My next thought was, "Whoever's playing this role better be good - but I bet he's not as good as Scott". Well, maybe...but I wouldn't bet on it.

One thing about being a friend is the joy in seeing your friend's success. If Scott is your friend - and indeed, he has many - your joys are plentiful.

We're midway through our run. It's going fast, and it's been a lot of work for all of us, but most of all for Scott. Yet it's paid off handsomely. And I couldn't be happier to see him revel in his performance each and every time.

If you've not come out already, folks, come out and see my friend Scott do what he does best. At a time in our world where there's reason enough to be sour, Scott's performance can transport you and remind you of not just why you try to make a living, but of what you are living FOR. Not many performers can do that, but he is one of them.

Scott - you are the best, man. I'm so happy for you and so proud of what you've accomplished. I probably haven't said that before, but it's worth not only saying but of putting out there for all to see. Enjoy the rest of this run - you richly deserve it.

Hey Scotto!!!!

THANK YOU for your wonderfully generous words on my running endeavors! :) I've definitely learned the lesson of moving well beyond my comfort zone - and I think I'm not resenting that anymore thanks to you! :)

You'll have to run the Staten Island Half someday with ME and maybe we can get Steve out there to cheer us on!!!!

You can crash at my place in Bklyn anyyytime you run down here in the tri-state area baby! At this Curly RUNNERS house there's an open door policy for fellow runners!!

I am really looking forward to race day after Sunday's run... what an amazing experience running with Amanda and finally feeling the camaraderie of running!!!
